Rutgers' 2016 recruiting class displayed a mix of outcomes that resulted in a performance that can be characterized as underwhelming. With an original class rank of 69 and a re-rank of 85, it is evident that the recruits did not significantly surpass the expectations set during their recruitment. The class consisted of 22 total commits, with only a small fraction achieving notable outcomes, as reflected in the low blue chip percentage of 5.
Among the recruits, several players emerged as college starters, indicating that while some expectations were met, the overall impact of the class was limited. Notably, Elorm Lumor, with a high original ranking, became a college starter, which aligns with recruiting expectations for a player of his caliber. In contrast, several other ranked recruits did not achieve outcomes consistent with their rankings, which contributed to a perception of underperformance for the entire class.
Overall, the Rutgers 2016 recruiting class underperformed expectations. The S2S re-rank decreased from 69 to 85, indicating that the recruits did not develop as anticipated. While some recruits were able to achieve outcomes such as becoming college starters, the lack of higher-tier outcomes and the presence of several lower-performing recruits led to a disappointing overall evaluation of the class. The key takeaway is that while there were individual successes, the collective outcomes did not align with the initial expectations set during recruitment.
